The town of Benicassim is characterized by its extensive coastline, which every year attracts thousands of tourists in search of good weather, white sand beaches and beautiful coves and cliffs. A paradise that allows you to practice, diverse and varied water sports in its transparent waters.

1. Scuba diving

Enjoy the depths of the Mediterranean Sea practicing scuba diving in Benicasim, get to know its waters, its flora and its fauna. Through guided tours with professionals or attending the course that best suits your profile, you can discover the marine depths offered by the municipality.

Among the most visited routes are:

  • Columbretes islands: The national park of the Columbretes islands is also a marine reserve, four groups of volcanic islands (La Grossa, La Ferrera, La Foradada and Carallot) of great richness and biological diversity. You will be able to swim among red and golden corals, breams and lobsters.
  • Scub Diving Barra Alta: It is a small volcanic and rocky cone, which rises on a platform of about 80-90 meters (tongue of volcano) about 4.5 miles of Columbretes. Protected Marine area with its spectacular richness and biodiversity.
  • Shipwrecks in Burriana: A wonderful visit where you can enjoy the special magnetism of diving in sunken ships. At about 22 meters deep, near the port of Burriana you will find the "litri" and "Egos" freighters where you can enjoy an underwater tour accompanied by dentex, gilthead, castanets and conger.
2. Snorkel

You can enjoy snorkeling or free diving in the sea of Benicasim, with your fins, your tube and your mask, without previous knowledge and at any age.

3. Navigation

The wonderful climate and the calm waters of the beaches of Benicassim make it, an ideal place to practice sailing and navigation all year round.

Both the Sea School and the Sailing club of Benicassim teach initiation and improvement courses on basic navigation concepts of different nautical disciplines. (light sailing, catamaran, paddle surf, canoeing ...). 

4. Kayaking

A new sport, recommended for any age, is navigation with kayaks. Where a variety of canoes, one, two or four crew are propelled by a double blade. Ideal sport to spend a fun day at sea, in a group or family, touring the beautiful landscapes of Benicasim.

5. Windsurf

Sports or recreational activity that consists of gliding over the sea with a surfboard that has a sail attached, the sail is driven by the action of the wind. A sport where you can practice at different levels and even get to do stunts and jumps at high speed, depending on the level and equipment of the windsurfer.

6. Paddle Surf

Learn this new form of surfing, it consists of paddling over a surfboard with the help of an oar and enjoy with the calm seas whilst standing, as well as surfing large waves. Benicassim is synonymous with hiking, for its many routes offering great scenic beauty. Among the most outstanding are 11 hiking trails through the desert of the palms, where you can enjoy the best views and contrasts of the area.

Route 1: Bartolo from Convento Desierto Las Palmas, passing through the “Mas Huget”

Departing from the Desert Convent of Las Palmas. Climbing towards the so-called High Portería, from there you take the path leading to the Pobla Tornesa track, then continue until you reach the "Coll de la Mola", from there you go to the Bartolo mountain following the marks of the PR that go through the "Mas de Huget" from where you see the Cruz del Bartolo and the Hermitage of "Sant Miquel". The descent is via a path that connects with the paved road that leads back to the beginning of the route.

Route 2: Bartolo from Convento Desierto Las Palmas:(option to go crest walking from the "Coll de la Mola")

An Interesting route with beautiful views, but with many ups and downs. Leaving from the Carmelite Convent to the High Lodge and the track of the Pobla Tornesa, until you reach the "Coll de la Mola" once there take the option of crest walking through the "carena". You then have a steep climb along the mountain divide until reaching the Cruz del Bartolo, along the asphalted track to the chapel of "Sant Miquel", and then go down the path on the left until you reach the paved road that will take you to the beginning of the route.

Route 3: Al Bartolo and la ermita de “Les Santes” from the Convento del Desierto de las Palmas

Departing from the Convent of Las Palmas towards Portería Alta. Continuing along a rough path at first and then asphalt, which will take you to the top of Bartolo, after seeing the Hermitage of "Sant Miquel" you will then go to the "Alt de Colomer" to end in another track that will take you to the hermitage of " les Santes "you then go up to the area of the Bartolo peak, from where you start the descent to the paved road that will take you to the beginning of the route.

Route 4: A la Pobla de Tornesa to the Convento Desierto de las Palmas

Leaving from the Convent Desierto las Palmas towards the High Portería, continue along a path that connects with the Pobla Tornesa. After passing through the "Font de la Mola" and the detour of "Mas de Huget" you arrive at the "Coll de la Mola del Morico". Continuing down the same track until you reach the town, to return follow the marks of the trail PR-CV-422 and once in the "Coll de la Mola" you will return by the same path of the initial part of the route.

Route 5: Castillo Montornés from Centro Interpretación Desierto de las Palmas

Departing from the Centro de Interpretación del Desierto de las Palmas on the road that goes up towards the Convent, continuing up the road where you will find a niche of religious nature, then taking the path that goes directly to the Castle of Montornés to climb the Round Tower, you will go back down and towards the lower part of the castle to see a Muslim water system that is usually the end of the excursion. However, it is recommended that you climb a path of some technical difficulty to reach the castle Albacar, an esplanade that takes you to the top of the castle or citadel where you can enjoy a beautiful landscape the return journey is by the same road at the beginning of the route.

Route 6: Al Castillo de Miravet from la Fuente del Perelló

Departing from near the Fuente del Perelló, you go up the track towards the rest area of Los Madroños until you reach the path that comes from the "Mas de Moltó", follow the path that will take you to the base of the castle. You then enter the ruins of the castle through the arches and continue towards the highest part of it, next to the ruins of the castle on the slope of the road to Cabanes you will also find the remains of what was a church and a village. To return you will do by the same path until the beginning.

Route 7: Las Fuentes del Desert. Font de Sant Josep, Font de Roc, Font Tallada, Font de Sant Josep

Here you start the tour at the Mirador de Sant Josep, from the well you will see the natural spring, you then take the path on the left, a few meters away you will find the hermitage of Montserrat, continue following the path on the left to reach the Font de Roc, after enjoying its waters, you then continue your journey along a small path that takes you to the asphalt road of Miravet ravine. Then take the track on the right and at 600 meters you will find the Font Tallada, from where you can also admire the Agulles de Santa Àgueda, from there you will see a sign that will indicate the return to the Font de Sant Josep.

Leaving the track of La Pobla de Tornesa and turn left, continue along the path until you reach a track, where you turn left and return again to the hermitage of "Les Santes".

Route 9: Circular itinerary through the hermitage of les Santes

Departure from the back of the hermitage of "Les Santes" in the direction of the Pobla de Tornesa where you will see paledozoic formations of slate, which is more than 230 million years old. Leaving the track of La Pobla de Tornesa and turn left, continue along the path until you reach a track, where you turn left and return again to the hermitage of "Les Santes".

Route 10: PR-CV 397.1, The roundtrip to the Agujas de Santa Águeda

Exit in front of the Parish Church of Benicàssim, towards the public school, Sta Agueda bordering above the railway line. Cross the tunnel of the AP-7 motorway until you reach the asphalt road of Miravet, join the path that will lead you to the hill known as El Rojal. Here you will start the descent from the cairn, turn right and at the second crossroads, turn left to look for the path "Els Corvarxos" where you will go to an agricultural farm and take the asphalted road that after passing two tunnels will take you back to the town.

Route 11: PR CV 397.2, The short option for the base de las agujas

The shortest version of the PR that leaves the Fuente del Señor, in the center of Benicasim. This starts at the cemetery, you then continue on the paved road and turn left at the height of a greenhouses. Then join dirt track which goes up and narrowing to become a path. In the highest part you will take the variant called "El Reboll". At the height of the corral de la Comba ruins, turn left towards Benicassim and take the path to the beginning of route 10 in the opposite direction.

Benicàssim has been the epicenter of many relevant cycling competitions, such as the well-known Vuelta Ciclista de España.

The geo diversity of La Plana, its slopes, parallel mountain ranges to the coast, rises and falls make this municipality the ideal place for cycling.

You can practice your favorite sport on holiday, since Benicasim has almost 15 km of bike lane, and you can also rent bicycles either from the different private companies in the area or from the bike loan service offered by the Benicàssim City Council available for tourists and residents.

Cycling Routes

Vía verde (Greenway) : The route Benicàssim-Oropesa del Mar (5.5 km), coincides with the old railway line between Valencia and Barcelona. Its almost 6 kilometers on the flat, that allows you to comfortably travel its route bordering the seashore, to the Port/Marina of Oropesa. A total of 11km, round trip in which to enjoy the wonderful views.

Touristic and scenic cycle route : One of the most beautiful routes in the Valencian Community, due to its incredible landscapes, rest areas and information boards. The route starts from the Curva a la Torre Sant Vicent to the old town, which connects with the boulevard to Mohíno Avenue and the bike path that runs along the promenade of Heliopolis. The route is circular, approximately 16km round trip, with minimal inclines, adapted to both adults and children.

Mountain bike Routes

Benicasim Beach-Benicassim-Bartolo-Oropesa-Vía Verde (46,23 km): Hard ride on the climb with slopes from 15% to 25%, although the entire route is 100% cyclable with good dirt tracks, cement and asphalt. You can enjoy the spectacular views from the top of Bartolo. On the way down you will pass through the beautiful nook of the Hermitage of Les Santes, then continuing along the road from Cabanes to Oropesa, at the foot of the castle and the Miravet Fountain, you will then arrive at the lighthouse and the Oropesa beach to return by the Via Verde (Greenway) to the beach of Terrers de Benicàssim.

Benicàssim-Desert de les Palmes-Pico Bartolo (53,54km): You need to take the (Via Verde) greenway in Benicàssim towards Oropesa del Mar, once there, you then take the ascent at the port that will take you to La Tornesa town, in this town is where the longest climb begins, towards the Bartolo peak, after enjoying the views descend to the town of Benicàssim. Difficulty level of the route: is easy and the estimated time is 4 hours and 19 minutes.

Routes in Benicàssim:

Route of the villas (2,5km-promenade)

Going along the seafront to the route of the villas is a pleasant 2.5km walk along the sea and in front of the beautiful architecture of the villas built by wealthy families at the end of the 19th century.

Route Heliópolis (3k-promenade)

Tour of the longest beach in Benicàssim, Heliópolis beach. Enjoy the views of the sea through two options, either by the seafront or by the bike path separated from the traffic that goes to the beach of Curva and the Grao de Castellón.

Route Bike path (5,3km-urban ride)

This is 5.3km on asphalt through the old Barcelona road, which passes through the urban area of Benicàssim and down to Torre de San Vicente beach and from there it reaches Heliópolis beach.

Route vía verde (5,6km-old railway pass)

This 5.6km road from the Port of Oropesa to Benicàsssim passes through the old railroad tracks and skirts the seashore, giving you unbeatable views.

Beach Route (6km-sand)

Stroll in the early morning on the 5 white sandy beaches of Benicasim, watching the sunrise as you walk the wooden walkways that are on the shore of the beach, it is a real pleasure.

Prcv 397 Benicàssim-Agulles de Santa Àgueda (11,06 km)

Circular route that starts right next to the town hall of Benicàssim, in the Fuente del Señor were you find the direcctions that will take you to Agulles de Santa Águeda. Of moderate technical difficulty, the estimated time for the route is 1 hour, 41 minutes.

Benicassim-Castello de la plana (by the peaks) (30,54 km)

Route that joins the towns of Benicàssim with the Capital of the Province Castellón, following the peaks of the mountain range parallel to the coast. It is a route with high technical difficulty and the estimated time of the route is 9 hours and 30 minutes. The route is long, with complicated stretches and without a source of water so that must be taken into account.

Benicassim-Bartolo X Montornes and time trail (18,39 km)

The route starts from Benicàssim to Bartolo, the technical difficulty is high and the estimated time on the route is approximately 4 hours. Starting from Benicàssim to Bartolo passing through the Masía del Salandó, along the beautiful path that passes through the Castell de Montornés, it’s here that begins the ascent to the Bartolo, by the timed trail section, to descend towards the Font de Sant Josep and the Old Monastery until getting to Benicassim.

Explore the Desert de les Palmes (26.79 km)

Leaving from Benicàssim, climb up La Comba, Plá de Muletes, Les Santes, Balaguera to Bartolo and down the track to Benicasim. The technical difficulty of this route is moderate and the estimated time is 3 hours and 17 minutes.

Mediterráneo Trail Night con luna (17,02 km)

Night climb to the legendary Bartolo from Benicàssim. The technical difficulty is high and the estimated time for the route is 2 hours and 47 minutes. The difficulty of the route is due to the steep slopes and the decomposed rocks, all this increased by being a night tour.

Circular Desert de les palmes (28,26 km)

Circular route from Benicasim to the most emblematic sites of the Desert de les Palmes: The Ermita de les Santes, the Bartolo peak and the Carmelite Monastery. A route of moderate technical difficulty, with an estimated time of 4 hours and 40 minutes, of wonderful views.

Benicàssim-La Comba-Colomer-Ullás-Font Perelló-La Bonica-Barranc negre-Xuvellús-Moltó-Benicàssim (28,09 km)

From benicassim you will start the hard climb of the Comba towards the Bartolo, then continue the climb to the Castell de Miravet and take the Bonica track that will leave you in the Barranc negre to continue up to the Xuvellús and down the track to Benicassim. The difficulty is moderate and the estimated time for this route is 4 hours and 3 minutes.
