If you’re one of those who thinks the beach is only worth visiting in summer, think again. Today we want to show you that any season is perfect for discovering the coast through fantastic walking routes. That’s why we’re bringing you a selection of trails where you can enjoy the landscapes surrounding Benidorm—without the heat or the hustle of high season.
Here are the five best hikes to enjoy Benidorm in winter!
1. Benidorm’s Cross
This is undoubtedly one of the city’s most iconic viewpoints. If you’ve already been to Benidorm but have never climbed up Sierra Helada to admire its breathtaking views, now’s the time. From the summit, you’ll enjoy unmatched panoramic views over Benidorm Bay as the sun goes down. Unforgettable!
How do you get to Benidorm’s Cross? We’ve put together everything you need to know.
2. La Torre de les Caletes
Looking for spectacular views of Benidorm’s rugged cliffs? Then head to La Torre de les Caletes, also known as Punta del Cavall (which is how you’ll find it on Google Maps). This 16th-century defensive tower sits within the Serra Gelada Natural Park, just like Benidorm’s Cross.
Starting from Levante Beach, in the Rincón de Loix area, the beginning of the route mirrors that of the Cross. Once on Calle Sierra Dorada, turn onto Calle Dos Calas, where signs mark the start of the path.
This is an easy, almost flat walk, fully paved and suitable for all ages—ideal for children and even for cycling. The trail is linear, meaning you return the same way you came, and totals around 7.5 km.
Along the way you’ll pass Cala de l’Almadrava and Cala del Tío Ximo, both wonderful for a refreshing dip. At the tower, sweeping views of Serra Gelada’s cliffs await.
And to wrap up the day, if you’re staying at a Servigroup hotel with a heated pool, treat yourself to a relaxing swim. The perfect finish!
3. El Aguiló Tower
This route offers the opposite perspective to the one you get from Benidorm’s Cross. El Aguiló Tower boasts impressive views over the coastline of Finestrat and Benidorm, and if you look to the right, Villajoyosa as well.
This 16th-century watchtower was built to spot possible pirate attacks along the coastline.
Just a 43-minute walk from Hotel Servigroup Torre Dorada, the trail begins near Finestrat Cove. Head up Calle Tramuntana almost to the top of the slope, just before the bend, where a zebra crossing and an information panel mark the start of the walk towards the tower. From here, a series of steps lead into a 950-metre route with gentle gradients and easy access.
You can return the same way or opt for a circular route that continues along the cliff, finishing on Calle Partida la Cala and coming back out onto Calle Tramuntana near the Ballesol residential complex. This alternative is stunning, offering sea views throughout, though it does involve steeper gradients.
4. Albir Lighthouse
Here’s something a little different, right next to Benidorm. The walk to Albir Lighthouse is ideal for families and is one of the most charming lighthouse routes in Alicante. You can make it as long as you like, as it’s even possible to walk from Benidorm—roughly 10 km from the Servigroup hotels in Levante. We explain how to reach the lighthouse and everything you need to know in another post.
5. Puig Campana
If you've travelled towards Benidorm, you’ve surely noticed that striking mountain with a distinctive notch at its peak—the source of countless legends. The most famous claims that the missing slice of Puig Campana is actually Benidorm Island. According to the tale, the rock fell into the sea during a fierce battle between the French hero Roland and a Moorish chief. Other stories say that a giant kicked the mountain, creating the iconic island.
Puig Campana is one of Alicante’s highest points. Its 1,400-metre summit offers a circular route starting from the well-known Font del Molí in Finestrat.
If you’re staying in any of our nine Benidorm hotels, follow the CV-767 to Finestrat before turning onto the CV-7672 to reach the starting point.
Once there, simply follow the signs. This route is more demanding than the previous ones: 16 km with significant gradients—but the reward is well worth the effort. Don’t miss Collado de Pouet, the crossroads, the Planicie, Bancal del Moro and Font de la Sausida, all perfect spots for a short rest.
Now that you know these easy hiking routes in Benidorm, we’re sure we’ve convinced you that winter at the coast can be wonderful.
Which one will you try first? Whichever you choose, we’ll be ready to welcome you at any of our Servigroup Hotels.
