The Blue Flag is a guarantee of quality on the beaches

What do the Blue Flags mean?

Maybe you already know, or you may have seen them waving on the beaches without knowing exactly what they mean.

The Blue Flags were created in 1985 as an initiative of the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) as a recognition for those who love and protect the marine environment. Two years later, coinciding with the European Year of the Environment, the idea became more ambitious and the use of the Blue Flags became a tool to promote the conservation and cleanliness of Europe's ports.

Today, this recognition of water quality and protection of the sea extends to the five continents with a total of 4,825 blue flags on beaches and ports around the world.
