Bowls in Mojácar
Bowls is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls called bowls (or bolas in Spanish) as close as possible to a smaller white ball called the “jack” or “kitty”. A game of strategy and skill that can be played individually or by teams (of 2, 3 or 4 players).
Depending on the type of pitch, the two most popular forms are Flat Green or Crown Green. The former is the type played in Mojacar and refers to a rectangular, flat, precisely levelled turf divided into several parallel lines of play. The second refers to uneven turf, similar to a golf course where the player can send the jack anywhere on the green. Today this sport (which was revived in Scotland), is currently played in over 40 countries, being very popular in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom as well as in other English-speaking countries.
