The vegetable farm el clot becomes a platform for a student visit
The vegetable farm El Clot, the main provider of fruit, vegetables and olive oil for the Servigroup hotels chain, has recently become a setting for a guided tour, for students between the ages of 11 and 12.
The young people, all of them sixth-grade students at CEIP María Francisca Ruiz Miquel de Villajoyosa, made the most out of an academic activity focused on environmental education, based on sustainability issues. This work is part of an initiative that comes from the Department of Environment and Education of the Townhall of Villajoyosa.
The head of the farm, Gaspar Manero, offered an exhaustive master class to young people in which he detailed the delicate and rugged procedures in terms of the natural care of all the products that are produced there.
The vegetable farm El Clot consists of an ecological farm, comprising of 10 hectares in which the laborious and constant work of horticultural production is carried out. Its most characteristic products, which become part of a healthy and balanced menu offer in the Servigroup hotels, are mainly oranges, lemons, grapefruits, tangerines, pumpkins, pomegranates, lettuce, celery, and of course, the delicious Virgin olive oil that enhances the best Mediterranean salads. This oil comes from the olive trees which grow on the vegetable farm El Clot.
This estate also has 14,000 hectares dedicated to greenhouses that produce magnificent tomatoes in their widest varieties, such as: cherry pear, canary, salad and raf. There are also a variety of vegetables such as broccoli, peppers, and the appetizing lettuce, cucumbers and aubergines.
On the other hand, the vegetable farm El Clot has a privileged system of drip irrigation and natural treatments that place its fruits and vegetables among the most recognised in the Mediterranean hotel market. Thanks to this, the farm displays on its shelves, outstanding prizes among which are those obtained in the popular vilera pumpkin competition that is held each year among the main producers of pumpkins in the city of Alicante.
Undoubtedly, a highly productive and fun filled educational day for young students who tasted the most attractive and succulent products of the farm, while exchanging doubts, questions and reactions with their host and teacher.
