The Town-Twinning of Benidorm with the city of Manizales, Colombia
Yesterday, Benidorm city council held the act of town-twinning with the city of Manizales (Colombia) and gave the Colombian city name to the well-known Colci Square in Benidorm.
The ties between the two towns were strengthened two years ago with the opening of Hotel Benidorm, the name with which Hotels Servigroup christened the 4* hotel which opened in the Colombian town in November 2012. On this occasion, the mayor of Benidorm, Agustín Navarro travelled to Colombia to receive the keys to the city in the presence of the governor of the Caldas region. Mr Navarro has returned the gesture by giving the name “Manizales City” to the square located next to the Colci cinema on the corner of Calle Limones and Maravall at 20.00hrs yesterday. The event was complemented by Manizales folk dancing and the traditional Benidorm dance “peuet”. Following the event, the cortege and guests enjoyed a gala dinner offered by the president of Servigroup Hotels, José Mª Caballé at the Hotel Diplomatic Benidorm.
This is one of the acts included in an intense calendar of events programmed by the Benidorm City Council. At 13.00hrs yesterday, an official reception was held in the Mayor’s office where the town hall’s book of honour was signed by the Mayor of Manizales and the Columbian Ambassador. In the evening at 18.30hrs an emotional ceremony of the twinning of the two towns was held in the municipal plenary hall, during which José María Caballé, president of Servigroup Hotels and Agustín Navarro received a medal naming them “Knight Commanders of Manizales” in recognition of their enthusiasm,leadership and commitment to the development of tourism in Manizales.
The Manizales delegation composed of the Mayor of Manizales, Jorge Eduardo Rojas Giraldo accompanied by his wife; the general manager of the of the Manizales Institute of Culture and Tourism Juan José Silva Serna; the secretary of office TIC and Manizales Business Development Eduardo Pineda Villegas, the consul general of Colombia in the Valencian Community Felipe Carreño and the Ambassador of Columbia in Spain, Fernando Carrillo Flórez.
Today, Friday 14th, the agenda extends out into the region with a visit to Guadalest, a visit to the fish market in La Villajoyosa and to the emblematic and international Valor Chocolate Factory and lunch at the Servigroup Montíboli Hotel in Villajoyosa.
