La Mojaquera shines again in Sierra Cabrera with the sponsorship of the Hotel Servigroup Marina Playa
On Sunday, the 7th of May, the traditional Sierra Cabrera Xtreme / La Mojaquera race commenced, as it does every year, heading to the Green Island of Almeria. The starting point was the popular beach of Macenas and the finishing line was located on the Marina de la Torre beach.
In this sixth race of La Mojaquera, our Hotel Servigroup Marina Playa has been the only hotel chain among the sponsors of the event.
As a fundamental part of the Andalusian BTT Ranking and the Provincial Circuit of Almería, this route for amateur and professional cyclists will run practically the entire distance off road, and in most cases along tracks and trails.
As in previous years, there have been cyclists from all over the national territory, with a predominance of cyclists from the provinces of Almeria, Murcia, Alicante and Valencia. The Mojaquera 2017 is also included as part of the Andalusian ranking, with a high participation of collaborators, mainly from Granada, Seville, Jaén and Huelva.
This sixth edition of La Mojaquera, which has recovered the emblematic Sierra de Almería as an essential part of the route, has an extension of 74 kilometres. With an accumulated ascent of almost 2400 metres, it has undoubtedly become one of the most complicated races included on the Andalusian calendar in terms of mountain biking.
The event has been led and organized once again by Gerardo Martínez, well known cyclist in Almeria, and prime organiser of La Mojaquera for the past 6 years.
The winner of this VI Sierra Cabrera Xtreme was the Cordovan Víctor Manuel Fernández Grande (Gsport-Valencia Esport Wolfbike), who completed this spectacular route in only 3 hours and 22 minutes in his category Elite.
The second prize was awarded to the Spaniard Xavier Borrás (Olympia Factoy Cycling Team), who obtained his victory in the final sprint against Juan Carlos Madrid (Oxygenbike Team).
In the female category, the winner of La Mojaquera was the Master 40 Ana Dolores Jiménez (C.D. Albox Bike). The women’s podium was completed by Remedios Jurado from Malaga (C.D. Albox Bike) Lisa Anne Tobin from Ireland.
After finishing the race, the day ended with an emotional prize presentation and a meal at the Hotel Servigroup Marina Playa.
Our Hotel in Mojácar, has a high sport reference and welcomes year after year the most outstanding professional teams from different points of Europe. Bouyges Telcom, Omega Pharma Quick Step and Movistar, are some of these teams that choose the routes around Mojácar roads for their winter training.
The popular Sierra Cabrera Xtreme/La Mojaquera race will start again in 2018. And although it will have slight modifications in its route, it will never lose its emblematic Green Island (Isla Verde de Almería).
