The Benidorm Handball Team emerges victorious after drawing against Puente Genil last Saturday
Last Saturday, May 27th, the handball team achieved the point it needed to remain in the first division (not having to rely on other teams match points) by drawing 29-29 against the Ángel Ximénez de Puente Genil team.
It was a close, exciting game from start to finish, with the team sponsored by Servigroup Hotels reaching a draw with its rival team in the last few minutes of the match.
Although the Alicante team began the game with a strong attack, the apponent team, Puente Genil, spent the best part of the first half with several advantage points.
During the second half, things seemed to equalize, allowing the Benidorm team to take the lead at certain times. However, after having the spectators on edge the whole time, at the end of the game, it was officially confirmed a draw. A tie that allows the team to continue for the third consecutive year in the national first división.
It rounds off an exciting league that is conclusively headed by F.C. Barcelona Lassa as official champions of the national first division Asobel Handball League, the Abanaca Ademar León team in second place and Fraikin BM Granollers in third position of the final ranking.
The act took place in the presence of Toni Pérez (Mayor of Benidorm) and José Ramón González de Zárate, (Councilor for events and Festivals).
As official sponsors, Servigroup Hotels, arranged for its popular children’s mascot Delfi to attend the game. Delfi was cheering his team on throughout the 90 minutes of the match.
The spectators provided the most emotional impact, when after the final minute, an avalanche of hand ball fans invaded the court, giving the team an overwhelming display of affection. This gave way to a huge celebration in honour of remaining in the Benidorm Handball first division.
Our players now have a well-deserved rest to recharge their batteries for the next league which will commence next season.
