The beach is nearer than ever!

Although distances have not changed the way of getting around, lengths of journeys and modes of transport have changed dramatically in Spain over the years.

It is a fact that the way people choose to travel has changed although fit has become more economical to fly, on some occasions it is less popular. This is due to the development of the railway system, motorways and road improvements and the use of navigators making it easier for us to follow the correct routes. In other words travel is quicker and safer than ever.

In the past, distances were long and complicated. Nowadays although the distance from Madrid to Benidorm is nearly 500 kilometres the access from the capital is much quicker than our grandparents, parents and even us ourselves can ever imagine a few years ago.

Railway from Alicante to Benidorm

How many times have we complained that the beach is too far away to go for only a couple of days?

If the thought of a 5 hour drive to return 48 hours later does not appeal then knowing that you can make the same journey in 2 ½ hours while watching a film, reading or listening to music is not impossible. It is a fact that more people are using the train for this type of weekend break. On the other hand it is safe, comfortable and not too expensive.

For those of you travelling from Madrid, the high speed railway lines stops 40 kms away from our Servigroup Hotels in Benidorm and the duration of the journey is 2 hours 20 min approximately, depending on the amount of stops that the trains make in Cuenca, Albacete and Villena. Furthermore, this high velocity train line connects with the RENFE TRAM which you can catch a few metres from the Alicante train station to come to Benidorm.

Recentely an agreement has been signed between RENFE and some important transport companies to operate on request during the whole day for those clients arriving to Alicante train station and wishing to make the connecting journey to Benidorm at a reasonable price. And for those looking for a private service there are also transfer companies available that can take you direct to our hotels in approximately 30 mins.

For those of you not travelling from Madrid, in the near future you will be able to enjoy the same privileges as the high speed railway lines are growing rapidly. In general due to the safety factor we are becoming more reluctant to drive long distances of 3, 4 or 5 hours in the car for a weekend break after a long working week.

It is clear that the car is still the most popular form of transport for the family holiday as with all modes of transport it has its advantages especially when you choose to stay for the whole of your duration in one particular resort. It is also more economical when there is more than 1 person travelling. . The A3 highway has cut down considerably the length of time on the road given that in the past the journey from Madrid to Benidorm took at least 7 hours.

The most used form of transport

Rail transport has become as important as flying and as mentioned earlier has become even more popular, and although a flight takes less time you still have to take into consideration the time you must allow at the airport for checking in the luggage. The long queues and the length of time waiting for cases ect can take longer than a train journey of considerable kilometres.

For these reasons, the classic air shuttle has been substituted by the Madrid- Barcelona AVE. However, it is a well known fact that the choice to travel by aeroplane continues to be the safest form of travel and with least amount of accidents.

Finally, whatever mode of transport we use its clear that the beach  is nearer for everyone!! You choose your form of transport we are waiting for you this summer…
