Summer concerts and shows in Benidorm
The summer is approaching, and like last year, we anticipate a season full of the most varied shows and events. Melendi, Luis Fonsi, David Guetta, India Martinez and the popular festivals Iberia Festival and Low Festival which will offer a musical panorama most varied and complete.
As you well know, for several years the festivals have been part of the musical essence of the summer concerts in Benidorm. On this occasion we have one less, as the popular Fuzzville of Benidorm has changed to the month of April. But just as this music festival (in the purest underground style) began in the spring of 2017, on June 9th we will end the spring with the Rock Forever Festival. This is a vital event in which popular bands such as Sober, Narco and Sinaia will participate, and that will serve as a prelude to a summer in which concerts and shows will be available to everyone.
Although there will be a lot more stars that will be part of the repertoire of summer concerts, we are going to give you an insight to the six concerts that are going to mark our musical summer 2017.
1- Melendi, 1st of July.
This year, the Melendi tour, which is called Quítate las gafas, (remove the glasses) will be at the Bullring in Benidorm. Throughout two hours of this concert, the Asturian singer-songwriter will introduce us to the songs of his latest album, which also gives title to his 2017 tour. Ramón Melendi conquered the Spanish musical scene in 2003 with an album in which we were introduced to this young singer with a somewhat peculiar image and some subjects indisputably influenced by a pop-rumbero sound that three years before the Munoz brothers had fashioned as Estopa. Melendi's style was a little more personal, with his carefully crafted lyrics to highly addictive rhythms, which caught the attention of the more and less demanding Spanish audiences.
Sin noticias de Holanda (No news from Holland) was the name of his first studio album. And 14 years later, with a much more moderate image and a musical style closer to pop-rock than rumba, Melendi continues conquering with his songs, while being classed as one of the biggest named stars of prestige on the Spanish musical scene. His participation as one of the coaches in the talent show La Voz (The Voice) has gained the singer even more affection from the Spanish people, thanks to a cheerful and warm character before unknown by most of his followers.
2- Luis Fonsi, 15th July
The most acclaimed Puerto Rican artist at the moment will be visiting the shores of Alicante to perform for his fans the new songs that make up his next album.
Although with eight albums published, it was in 2008 when he really reached the height of popularity in Spain, thanks to an album named Palabras del Silencio, (words of silence) on which was the classic ballad Yo no me doy por vencido (I will not give up). Until that moment, he was better known in Europe for his collaborations with stars such as Christina Aguilera and Jose Feliciano. Just in these last months, his career seems to have taken a considerable turn again, after the publication of a single with clear influences of reggaetón. In this way, Despacito (Slowly) seems to have become the most danced to song of the moment, marking at the same time a clear rupture with the stereotype of the Puerto Rican singer songwriter and producer of traditional Latin ballads.
It will therefore be on the 16th July when this and many other songs of his extensive musical career can be heard at the Plaza de Toros (Bull Ring). It will be the only concert that Fonsi will play in the Province of Valencia, forming part of a massive tour named Love and Dance.
3- India Martínez, 16th July
With her own unique personality marked by the fusion of music styles, flamenco and pop these are part of the essence that characterizes her. On the 16th of July will be when Jennifer Jessica Martinez, popularly known as India Martinez, will climb the big stage of Benidorm Palace to play her most popular songs.
Since this young woman from Cordoba was introduced to the public for the first time in the classic Veo Veo TV programme by Teresa Rabal she has triumphed. It was only six years later, at 19, when her first album, Azulejos de lunares (Polka Dot Tiles) came out.
At the age of 31, with several gold records and different Latin Grammy nominations, India Martínez has collaborated with artists such as Luis Fonsi, La Oreja de Van Gogh, Enrique Iglesias and David Bisbal.
Her latest album, titled Te cuento a secreto (I want to tell you a secret), was released in 2016 and was quickly ranked No. 1 on the Spanish national sales list. This amazing young woman has now become one of the country's most popular soloists.
4- Low Festival, 28th, 29th and 30th of July
There have already been four editions of the Low festival celebrated in Benidorm. Since its inauguration in 2012, Benidorm's Low Festival has been celebrated year after year, becoming the most acclaimed musical event for young audiences in this Levante town.
During these previous editions, the Guillermo Amor sports ground in Benidorm has been adapted to offer an extraordinary combination of sun and music with great grassy areas provided for relaxing. National music and international bands of great importance have performed and will continue to head a music festival that every year has more stature and is gaining greater recognition.
For this Low Festival 2017 we have the headliners already confirmed the Pixies, Franz Ferdinand, Mando Diao, Nada Surf, Lori Meyers, Fangoria, Sidonie, La Casa Azul !!! (Chk Chk Chk), and Satellite Stories.
5- David Guetta, , 12th August
Last summer, there was such a buzz of excitement caused by the king of electro house music, who also played in the Stadium Guillermo Amor Benidorm, that this summer he will repeat the experience.
As part of an unprecedented electro music event, David Guetta will present his new album in this unique and only concert being played in Spain.
At the moment, the most acclaimed DJ of the five continents is in the promotional stage of his imminent album soon to be released, and of which until now, the only single from this album is with the vocals of Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne.
Throughout his extensive musical career, Guetta has also worked with leading pop artists such as Kelly Rowland, Jennifer Hudson, Madonna, Rihanna, Fergy, Usher, The Black-Eyed Peas, John Legend, Estelle, Taio Cruz, Emeli Sande, among many others. He has also relaunched and promoted great singers who’s careers in the beginning did not get off the ground but are now real stars, as is the case of Sia and Sam Martin.
6- Iberia Festival, 18th and 19th of August
As every year, the increasing legend that is the Iberia Festival returns to Benidorm to show the most emblematic national pop-rock of our country.
For this, classic groups from the 80's and 90's play a select repertoire of their most symbolic themes.
The 2017 Iberia Festival will be spread over two days, unlike last year, which was limited to three groups that performed on a single night.
It was Hombres G, Duncan Dhu and La Frontera who smashed it last August 20th at the Julio Iglesias Auditorium in Benidorm.
For this year, Hombres G will return to headline, along with other national pop stars such as Loquillo, Estopa, Social Security and the world-renowned Inmaculate Fools, a group led by the charismatic Kevin Weatherill.
If you come to Benidorm this summer, you are very likely to be able to go to concerts. Do you dare?
