Alicante Film Festival 2016 is coming
Film festivals are becoming more numerous and more frequent. It is a fact that every year more cultural events of this type are becoming more and more popular. Always at these festivals, you find a lot of people who are passionate about the seventh art, sharing their impressions, tastes and preferences. Undoubtedly, a special meeting in which not only enjoyed are the numerous projections in various formats, but the same zeal and enthusiasm is also shared by watching cinema in its purest form.
In our area of the Mediterranean you can find both the, Film Festival of Alfaz del Pi and Film Festival Alicante both have a considerable relevance and importance nationally, along with the Film Festival San Sebastian, Fantastic Film Festival of Sitges, the traditional Festival of Malaga and the International Huesca Film Festival.
In 2004 the Costa Blanca presented its new Alicante Film Festival, which began offering a special spotlight on the short film section, now this definitive approach is also shared with feature films. Since we are already on the verge of June, we are now approaching the thirtieth edition of the Film Festival Alicante 2016. The event always has the unconditional support of the City of Alicante and the Provincial Council of Alicante, and various companies also have their role to play in this next edition of the festival.
Six feature films selected from more than 60 will engaged in a tough fight for the honour of being chosen, this will be headed by Vicente Seva, festival director. Another five which are integrated in the Social Cinema section, as well as numerous prizes awarded to different protagonists of the film environment, helping to form this legendary festival.
Thus, this traditional exhibition will start on 6th June, starting with 9 Bars by Angel Puado. A production in which love and friendship is the main theme at the centre of this clever and careful script.
The other films included are El tiempo de monstruos, (Time of Monsters) by Felix Sabroso, Deus ex Machina, by Fernando Osuna; Neckan, by Gonzalo Tapia; Juegos de familia, (Family Games) by Belen Macías; and culminating with La puerta abierta (The Open Door), by Marina Sereski.
This forthcoming edition, in which the jury this year will be headed by the triumphant Claudia Pinto, will present five films that will integrate the Social Cinema section, which will be complemented by the presentation of a book and a short film showing this area of cinema. The Social Film Section of the Festival of Alicante 2016 will begin on the 6th June, with the presentation of the film Welcome Mr. Heston, where in 1950s he lived in Spain and this portrays his daily life, which centred on the town of Torrelobatón in the province of Valladolid.
The other films that will complete the Social Film Section will be composed of District Zero, by Jorge Fernandez, Pablo Tosco and Paul Iraburu; Puzzle, by Silvia Cepero; the short film, Manos para respirar (Hands to breath) by Paco Saavedra Millan and Loli Llobregat; and the documentary Sueños de Sal (Dreams of salt) by Alfredo Navarro Benito. This whole audio-visual presentation of the book, Cine y Pediatría ( Cinema and Paediatrics) that talks about the film focusing on childhood and adolescence.
As for the short film section, after a complicated selection from more than 1200 works, 54 have been chosen to compete in June, where besides different trophies and awards for various categories, there will be a special prize for best short film at this thirteenth edition of Alicante Film Festival, which in turn will receive a bonus of 1500 €, and a similar prize of 1000 € for the best short animation. For this subcategory, the festival will feature the participation of a specialized animation film jury.
There will also be some honorary awards such as the traditional Lucentum Award, to be presented to veteran director Imanol Uribe who will also be screening his latest production, Lejos del mar (Far from the sea). Not only this award but also the popular honour award will be presented to the legendary actor Juan Echanove. If you are passionate about cinema, we hope to see you in Alicante between 4 and 11 June.
